DESCRIPTION:
APW - Elgin, low serial #637, B.W. Raymond, 15J, 18S, 14K gold (tested) VLF HC recase with misleading "18" marking, front with well worn initials which are no longer legible, gold cuvette, "National Watch Co" white enamel SS dial, KWKS, gilt mvt, s#637. Gross weight of assembled watch 84.8 dwt (131.8 g). Elgin began their numbering sequence with serial #101, making this very early example the 537th watch made by serial number.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, plates have been re-gilt with this restoration being well executed though showing some telltale signs, few micro-fine scratches and mild pinpoint surface nicks; dial with hl at 7, minuscule edge nick at 5:30; excellent hands; case shows ample wear, few dings and mild dents to front, bow impressions to upper front, scattered mild to moderate dents to rear, engraving detail to front initials is substantially lost, reduced engraving detail to front/rear perimeters and to band, rear hinge with small bit of play and missing its end-caps, front hinge with past repair evident internally; tight bow, push shows ample wear; good glass crystal.
